Mumbai, Maharashtra Election Results 2024 Highlights: Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena faction has largely dominated Mumbai, winning three out of six seats in the Lok Sabha elections 2024. The Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackrey or UBT) faction won Mumbai South, South Central and North East. On the other hand, union minister Piyush Goyal of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won Mumbai North defeating Congress' Bhushan Patil.
Six Lok Sabha seats in India's financial capital, Mumbai, went to polls in the fifth phase of general elections last month. These six seats were Mumbai North, Mumbai North West, Mumbai North East, Mumbai North Central, Mumbai South and Mumbai South Central.
The region witnessed a high-profile contest, mainly between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the INDIA blocs. Exit polls had projected a historic third term for Prime Minister Narendra Modi in office, in which the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is eyeing a majority from the 48 constituencies in Maharashtra.
In the past two years, the state has seen a dramatic turn of events in its tumultuous political landscape, with the Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) both being broken up and facing a struggle to prove their authenticity, with factions of both eventually moving towards the BJP alliance in the state.

In a closely contested fight, Bhosle polled 5,71,134 votes, while NCP (SP) candidate Shashikant Shinde got 5,38,363 votes.
Bhosale won the Satara seat on an NCP ticket in the 2019 general elections, but he later joined the BJP and lost to NCP's Shrinivas Patil in the by-election.
Though Satara was an NCP seat, the BJP managed to claim it during the seat sharing with its Mahyuti allies.

Union MSME minister Narayan Rane on Tuesday wrested Ratnagiri- Sindhudurg Lok Sabha constituency from the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena in a prestige battle.
Rane defeated his nearest rival and two-term MP Vinayak Raut by a margin of 47,858 votes in his debut election for Lok Sabha.
A former Shivsainik and ex-chief minister of Maharashtra, Rane polled 4,48,514 votes while Raut secured 4,00,656 votes.
This is the first time the BJP has won a Parliamentary seat in the coastal Konkan region, a traditional stronghold of the Shiv Sena (undivided).
This was the first Lok Sabha election wherein the 'bow and arrow' poll symbol of the undivided Sena was missing from the scene, after the split in the party in June 2022.

NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar on Tuesday said the Lok Sabha election results showed the situation was favourable in the country for political change, and added that the INDIA bloc leaders are likely to meet in Delhi on Wednesday to decide the future course of action. He, however, also said that the opposition bloc was not likely to form a government at the Centre.
Addressing a press conference, Pawar said, "I spoke to Mallikarjun Kharge and Sitaram Yechury. The INDIA alliance meeting is likely to be held in Delhi tomorrow. Final decision is expected to be taken by this evening. Accordingly, I will be in Delhi." To a question who would be the next prime minister, he said, "We have not given it a thought." "I am not sure if the INDIA alliance can form government. We will meet tomorrow and take a decision unanimously on the future course of action," he said.
Pawar said the strike rate of his party and that of Shiv Sena (UBT) in the Lok Sabha elections was very good. As the trends indicated that the BJP might not achieve majority on its own in the Lok Sabha polls, Pawar said he had not spoken to JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar or TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu, contrary to media reports. He also expressed satisfaction with his own party's performance, and said his party contested only 10 seats in Maharashtra, of which it was leading in seven. The strike rate of his party and that of the Shiv Sena (UBT) was very good, he said. "This is success of my party workers, Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT)," Pawar said.

Two-time BJP MP Heena Gavit on Tuesday lost to Congress's Gowaal Padavi by a margin of more than 1.5 lakh votes from the Nandurbar Lok Sabha constituency in Maharashtra. Padavi, an advocate, polled 7,45,998 votes, while Gavit got 5,86,878 votes.
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate Ananda Koli got 10,644 votes. While Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) candidate Hemant Koli got 4081 votes. As many as 14,123 voters pressed the NOTA (none of the above) option.
Nandurbar, a former stronghold of the Congress, is a scheduled tribe-reserved constituency.

People have taught the BJP a lesson for installing an "unconstitutional" government in Maharashtra, state Congress president Nana Patole said on Tuesday. Speaking at a news conference, Patole also said his party has sought a recount of votes in northern Maharashtra's Dhule constituency as the opposition's Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) was set to win more seats than the ruling Mahayuti coalition in the state.
"People have given reply to the (BJP's) dictatorial attitude. Democratic process was murdered in Maharashtra and an unconstitutional government was formed. People have now taught them a lesson," Patole said, referring to the toppling of the MVA government and subsequent splits in the Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
"This has resulted in the Maha Vikas Aghadi winning maximum seats in the state," he added. Crediting Rahul Gandhi for the Congress' performance in the state as well as the country, Patole said the winds of change began to blow due to Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra and the subsequent Nyay Yatra. People of the country stood by Gandhi, Patole said. The Congress and people of the country want that Rahul Gandhi become the prime minister, he said.
