1. Begin the hill outline by drawing a long, wavy horizon line across the page. On one of the raised hillocks, begin to draw a spruce tree.

Use curved lines that meet at jagged points to draw two layers of the evergreen tree.

2. Continue to draw more layers of the pine tree, with each successive layer smaller than the last. Use curved lines that meet at points.

Then, draw a deciduous tree on the other hill. Use pairs of curved lines for its trunk and branches, and a series of connected “U” shaped lines to begin the tree’s leafy crown.

3. Continue to draw the cloudlike crown, using a series of connected curved lines. Then draw a patch of tall grass beside the tree. Use curved lines of different lengths that meet at jagged points.

4. Draw a much taller hill in the background. From each side of the picture, draw long curved lines that don’t quite meet.

Begin the base of an evergreen tree on top of the hill. Draw more patches of grass around the deciduous tree. For all of these plants, you will use curved lines that meet at jagged points.

5. Continue to draw the pine tree, creating successively smaller triangular sections. Then draw another pine tree behind it.

6. Complete the pine tree. Then use a pair of long curved lines to sketch a stream or river running between the hills in the foreground.

Beside it, draw a daisy-type wildflower. Use an oval for the flower’s center and “U” shaped lines for its petals.

7. Draw more daisy flowers, again using an oval for each flower’s center and “U” shaped lines for its petals.

Use curved lines to give the nearest flowers stems, double-pointed leaves, and patches of jagged grass beneath them.

8. Draw more patches of grass on the sides of the hills, using curved lines that meet at jagged points. Texture the distant hill with jagged, wavy lines.

9. Add more texture using a curved line, then draw clouds in the distance. Use connected “U” shaped lines for the tops of the clouds, and where visible, straight lines for their bottoms.
